Both legal and medical interpreters have a code of ethics.
The basic principals are:

  • INTERPRET ACCURATELY
     
  • BE IMPARTIAL
     
  • AVOID CONFLICTS OF INTEREST
     
  • BE PROFESSIONAL
     
  • MAINTAIN CONFIDENTIALITY
     
  • DO NOT GIVE ADVICE OR OPINIONS
     
  • RECOGNIZE LIMITATIONS
     
  • CONFORM TO TITLE VI
